Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Rural Energy Agency (REA) has teamed up with the Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) to address challenges ahead of starting implementation of new rural electrification projects.
REA Director General, Eng Amos Maganga, made the revelation here over the weekend immediately after opening the meeting that brought together key stakeholders in the implementation and monitoring of the rural electrification projects, including prevention and combating of corruption bureau and procurement authorities.
He said the meeting attended by Tanesco regional managers and REA focal person(s) also reviewed challenges during the implementation of the past rural electrification projects, whose completion is now 85 per cent.
Eng Maganga further said the meeting also discussed best way(s) to go after identifying gaps realized in the Phase I to III and strategize for next smooth take off with other stages. He said REA is committed to promoting and facilitating rural energy development by working in partnership and collaboration with all stakeholders.
“When we promote, stimulate, facilitate and improve modern energy access for productive uses in rural areas, we stimulate rural economic and social development, hence, smooth implementation of the projects. “This undertakes a number of projects including the peri-urban in Coast region and Kigamboni whose implementation is completed and 37,000 customers, who have been connected,” he pointed out.
