Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE processors of food, spices and sisal products in Tanga region have been urged to give priorities to training offered by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) to raise goods standards and penetrate wide in regional and global markets.
The TBS Food Safety Officer, Mr William Mhina made the remarks here during the trade exhibitions organised by the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA).
“TBS is ready to support manufacturers in making high quality goods that can compete in the domestic, regional and international markets,” he said.
In the same vein, he urged government institutions, nongovernment organisations and private sector that oversee manufacturers to make sure that quality standards are observed in the whole production chain.
He said one of the TBS obligations is to support business growth and ultimately enhance its contributions to jobs creation and economic growth.
“We have participated in the Tanga Trade Fair to provide education to entrepreneurs, identify and address challenges they face and inform them on how to register and certify their goods at TBS,” he said.
Mr Mhina noted that the government sets aside between 150m/- and 200m/- annually to serve entrepreneuers with various services, including education on how to produce high quality goods, make certification and registration of goods and premises.
He encouraged entrepreneurs in the region and the country to make efficient use the opportunity to register and certify their goods freely, the services which are fully funded by the government.
One of the participants in the trade exhibitions, Ms Ashura Omari from Kilindi District, dealing with sunflower oil processing said, “I started sunflower processing without observing quality standards procedures and my business was closed.
But after getting detailed information from TBS, I am now ready to register my business in order produce high quality cooking oil to protect consumers health and penetrate wide market,”
