Africa-PressTanzania. TANGA Women Combine thrashed Dar Women Combine by nine wickets in a T20 National Women Championship at Usagara grounds in Tanga yesterday.

The victory keeps Tanga in command of the league after securing ten points. They have won five of six games, while their opponent Dar Women Combine are second of the log after winning four of their six encounters and recorded eight points.

It is for the second time Tanga picked victory over the Dar es Salaam ladies in the ongoing tournament. In the first encounter, Tanga won by six wickets. In yesterday’s encounter, Dar Women Combine won the toss, elected to bat first and bagged 120 runs for 6 wickets in 20 allotted overs.

Mwanaidi Shakimu, Nasra Hamza and Neema Jasmin were the three notable ladies from Dar Women Combine, who contributed well for their squad. Mwanaidi was able to pocket 39 runs after facing 31 balls; Nasra scored 41 runs after facing 55 balls and Neema scored 23 runs off 21 balls.

In reply, Tanga managed to chase the target set by Dar ladies, scoring 121 runs for the loss of one wicket in 18 overs. Huda Mrisho of Tanga was at her best form and unstoppable, she registered 66 runs after facing 53 balls.

Huda’s performance was magnificent and she scooped player of the match award. Other notable contributions came from Nasra Nassoro and Jenipher Gabriel.

Nasra played well and took three wickets while Jenipher scored 31 runs after facing 42 balls.

The tournament is not done, as each team will meet twice before heading to the playoff stage. According to the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Communication Officer, Atif Salim, when the league stage is completed, the first team in the table will meet the runner-up, while third team will face the fourth in the final, while the third and fourth place will play for the plate.

The tournament involves four regions which are Dar es Salaam (Dar Women Combine), Morogoro (Morogoro Women Combine), Tanga (Tanga Women Combine) and Arusha (Arusha Women Combine).

Through the tournament, TCA will select top players who will form national women cricket team that will represent the country in the upcoming international tournaments
