Africa-Press – Tanzania. CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Secretary General, Daniel Chongolo has directed the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) to ensure that the undergoing reforms in the sector are in line with provision of better services.

Chongolo issued the directives during his tour to inspect the ongoing expansion of Tanga Port, insisting that the improvements aimed at strengthening the port services and increase revenue.

He said the reforms will also open up economic opportunities to the citizens and the country in general.

“In order to get the expected outcomes, port executives should make sure that the services provided reflect the undergoing reforms because Tanga port is strategic for providing services to the East African countries,” he said.

Mr Chongolo said that if Tanga port performance will be improved, it will bring huge economic changes to the residents, region and the country in general.

He said the renovation of Tanga Port is a result of development in transportation sector, saying it is the party expectation that the port will increase efficiency and promote economic growth.

Chongolo further directed Tanga officials to ensure that job opportunities that need expertise benefit regional residents.

” You should make sure that Tanga residents are given priority in benefiting from the project in order to promote individual economy and the region in general.

Acting Manager for Tanga Port, Masoud Mrisha said that the construction of the berth has reached 90 per cent.

“Upon completion of the project, the cargo capacity will increase from750, 000 tonnes to 3 million tonnes,” Mrisha said.
