Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE government has called on both local and foreign investors to channel their resources into sustainable transport, stressing that improved infrastructure is crucial for accelerating national development.

Deputy Minister for Transport Mr David Kihenzile said that the government is making notable progress in the construction of modern railway lines and roads, explaining that these investments are designed to attract meaningful capital that will contribute to the country’s economic growth.

He made the remarks on Monday during the official launch of the inaugural Sustainable Land Transport Week, which has brought together more than 60 exhibitors showcasing cutting-edge transport technologies.

“This week is very important for us, and we are proud to witness the government’s continued commitment to investing in road infrastructure that eases the movement of cargo and passengers,” he said.

“What we want now is to continue encouraging investors to bring advanced technologies into the country to drive national development.”

For his part, the Director-General of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA), Mr Habibu Suluo, said investor appetite for the transport sector remains strong, noting that sustainable transport presents vast opportunities.

Mr Suluo also expressed optimism about the growing uptake of e-mobility solutions, pointing out that many transport operators are now using e-ticketing and vehicle device systems to improve efficiency and streamline the movement of passengers and goods.

“As LATRA, we will continue ensuring an enabling environment by strengthening infrastructure and facilities across the country, so that access to these services becomes easier,” he said.

“It should not be the case that someone drives an electric or gas-powered vehicle to Arusha only to discover that charging or fuelling facilities are unavailable. Sustainability must be ensured everywhere.”
