Africa-Press – Tanzania. The Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) has held talks with Algeria’s National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) aimed at establishing cooperation, exchanging experiences, and building capacity in regulating oil and natural gas exploration and production activities.

The meeting, held in Algiers on Sunday (September 7, 2025), was attended by ALNAFT President Samir Bekhti, while Shigela Malosha represented PURA’s Director General, Engineer Charles Sangweni, leading a delegation of leaders and experts from Tanzania.

Speaking during the meeting, Malosha said cooperation between the two institutions is crucial for the growth of upstream petroleum activities in both Tanzania and Algeria, as it will enhance the efficiency of regulatory and supervisory activities in oil and gas exploration and production.

“Through capacity building, training, and exchange of experiences on how PURA and ALNAFT perform their duties, it is clear that this partnership will be a catalyst for the two institutions to perform even better,” said Shigela.

For his part, ALNAFT President noted that the partnership between the two institutions is important and will be of great benefit to both sides, considering that PURA and ALNAFT carry out similar responsibilities, albeit in different countries.

Among the areas PURA and ALNAFT discussed for experience-sharing and capacity building are the regulation and oversight of oil and gas exploration and production activities, petroleum data management, participation of local companies in oil and gas projects, and the development of relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines..
