Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIAN President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has emphasized that as Tanzania continues to open up and advance in development, there is a growing need for legal reforms to safeguard the interests of both society and the nation at large.

Speaking during the launch ceremony of the Revised Laws Edition 2023, held at the Chamwino State House in Dodoma, President Samia noted that between 2002 and 2023, a total of 1,039 laws have been amended. She stated that this figure reflects the country’s rapid transformation and the necessity for laws that align with the current environment.

“As the country continues to open up, it increasingly requires laws that evolve and reflect that development in order to protect our national interests,” President Samia stated.

She further stressed that updating laws should not be an event that occurs only every two decades. Instead, she proposed that legal reviews be conducted every ten years. During such a period, all amended laws should be documented and included in an annual reform plan, eventually being compiled into a comprehensive volume of revisions.

President Samia reassured the public that the government will continue to invest in the process of legal reform to ensure that laws remain relevant to the current context and continue to protect the broader interests of the nation.

She concluded by announcing that the next round of legal reforms is scheduled for 2033, as part of ongoing efforts to build a modern legal system that keeps pace with social and economic changes.
