Tanzania Approves 8 Water Authorities for Customer Service Charters

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzanian government, through the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA), has approved customer service charters for eight water utilities across the country, as part of ongoing efforts to improve water service delivery to citizens.

Speaking in Parliament in Dodoma on May 9, 2025, during the presentation of the Ministry of Water’s budget for the 2025/2026 financial year, Minister for Water Jumaa Aweso said the charters were approved between July 2024 and April 2025.

The water authorities that benefited from this initiative include Moshi, Makonde, Ruangwa, Songea, Makambako, KASHWASA, Morogoro, and Kahama.

Minister Aweso further noted that, within the same period, EWURA also reviewed the business plans of 10 water utilities in the country, aiming to ensure these authorities deliver services efficiently and in line with quality standards.

He emphasized that EWURA is responsible for issuing licenses to water authorities, monitoring compliance with licensing conditions, regulating service quality and efficiency, approving water service tariffs, and resolving disputes between service providers and customers, under laws and regulations.
