Africa-Press – Tanzania. The United Republic of Tanzania said it will continue to collaborate with the diaspora in coordinating their affairs, recognizing their crucial role in the development of the nation and the entire African continent.

This was revealed during the 7th Bandung Africa Institute Conference held in Arusha, involving intellectuals from various African countries.

The conference, which started today November 21 and to climax tomorrow November 22, 2025, discussed key issues concerning the future of the African continent. These included advocacy for the return of African cultural artifacts stolen before and during the colonial era, reforms of education curricula rooted in colonial systems used in many African countries, capital investment from the diaspora, and the use of modern technology in agriculture.

Speaking at the event, the Director of the Diaspora, Engagement and Opportunities Unit in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Salvator Mbilinyi, assured participants that the Government will continue to collaborate with the diaspora in coordinating their affairs, recognizing their crucial role in the development of the nation and the entire African continent.

He further explained that the African diaspora has remained an important pillar of development, noting that in 2024 they sent remittances valued at 94 billion US dollars an amount significantly higher than development aid to Africa (ODA), which reached 64 billion dollars.

Mbilinyi emphasized the importance of this contribution to Africa’s progress, urging African countries to establish strong systems for managing diaspora affairs in order to maximize benefits for the continent.

He also reminded participants that the African diaspora is recognized as the Sixth Region of the African Union, a group with considerable economic, social, and cultural influence, and therefore deserves supportive frameworks that enhance cooperation for Africa’s development.

The conference was organized by the Bandung Conference Africa Institute, headquartered in Kenya, in collaboration with the 6th Region African Diaspora Alliance Tanzania, and brought together members of the African diaspora from various parts of the world.
