Africa-Press – Tanzania. MOROCCO: TANZANIA has reaffirmed its readiness to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following high-level engagements with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Rabat, Morocco.

The Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Christian Makonda, met CAF president Patrice Motsepe, delivering a formal letter from President Samia Suluhu Hassan that underlined Tanzania’s commitment to advancing football development and working closely with CAF ahead of AFCON 2027.

Makonda, accompanied by Government Chief Spokesperson and Ministry Permanent Secretary Gerson Msigwa, assured CAF that Tanzania is making steady progress in preparations for the tournament, which will be jointly hosted with Kenya and Uganda.

He said the country is determined to stage a competition that sets new standards on and off the pitch.

Motsepe praised Tanzania’s efforts in football development, citing major investments in sports infrastructure, the successful hosting of CHAN 2024, and the strong momentum towards AFCON 2027.

He confirmed that CAF will deploy a team of technical experts to Tanzania to support final preparations for the expanded tournament, which is expected to feature 28 teams.

The meeting coincided with the conclusion of the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, where a historic handover ceremony officially passed hosting rights to East Africa.

At the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Motsepe presented the CAF flag to representatives of the three host nations during a ceremony held moments after the final match between Morocco and Senegal.

Tanzania was represented by Minister Makonda alongside Wallace Karia, President of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), while senior officials from Kenya and Uganda were also present on the podium.
