As Easter approaches, the Tanzania Police Force has assured the public of enhanced security measures in place for the celebrations. Police Spokesperson DCP David Misime emphasized the importance of community cooperation and urged worshippers to secure their homes and supervise children. The police also warned about safety during the ongoing rains, highlighting the risks of flooding and accidents.

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Police Force has reassured the public that adequate security measures are in place as Christians prepare to conclude the Lent season and celebrate Easter.

Authorities have said that, through close cooperation with communities and other stakeholders, the overall security situation across the country remains stable.

In a statement issued yesterday, Police Spokesperson DCP David Misime noted that the conclusion of Lent and the commencement of Easter celebrations involve both daytime and nighttime church services.

He said the police have coordinated with local security committees at places of worship to ensure the safety of all worshippers.

“We urge all people to ensure their homes are secure when leaving for services and to closely supervise children, especially when they go out to celebrate in designated safe areas,” said DCP Misime.

“Everyone must also adhere to traffic laws and safety regulations, including refraining from drunk driving, to prevent accidents that could disrupt the holiday,” he stated.

DCP Misime further cautioned the public about risks associated with the ongoing rains.

“We have witnessed tragic incidents in which Tanzanians lost their lives while attempting to cross flooded or fast-flowing areas, either on foot or by motorcycle.

Children have also drowned or fallen into uncovered pits. Parents and guardians must take responsibility of protecting their children, and those undertaking excavations should ensure that open pits are properly covered or filled to prevent accidents,” he stressed.

DCP Misime added that these measures form part of the Police Force’s ongoing mandate to protect people and maintain peace, particularly during major religious and social events.

Easter is a significant religious event for Christians, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Tanzania, it is celebrated with various church services and community gatherings. The police often increase security during this period to ensure the safety of worshippers and prevent any incidents that could disrupt the festivities. This year, the police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and safety, especially given the challenges posed by the rainy season, which can lead to hazardous conditions.
