Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzanian government has collected 192.78bn/- from online businesses, particularly from betting, between July 2024 and March this year. This revenue was collected from 1,820 online companies that are already registered. As a result, the government plans to take important steps to establish a robust system that will regulate this business in line with technological advancements and increase revenue.
This was stated today in Parliament in Dodoma by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Exaud Kigahe, while responding to a question from Special Seats MP (CCM), Dr. Ritta Kabati, who asked whether the government recognizes online businesses, how many companies have registered, and how much revenue has been generated from this sector.
“Mr. Chairman, to ensure we keep up with these changes, the government has prepared a National Electronic Commerce Strategy, which is in the final stages of implementation,” Kigahe explained during the question and answer session.
He stated that the key areas to be addressed in the implementation of this strategy include improving ICT infrastructure, enhancing policies, laws, and regulations, upgrading communication services, transportation, and logistics, strengthening online transaction services, and providing education to the public about online business to encourage the use of existing online platforms for commerce.
