Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzanian government has reported steady progress in the Mkinga–Horohoro water project, valued at 35.4bn/-in its efforts to improve access to safe and clean water for residents of Mkinga District in Tanga Region.

This was stated in Parliament in Dodoma by Deputy Minister for Water, Kundo Mathew, while responding to a question from Mkinga Constituency Member of Parliament, Twaha Mwakioja, who sought to know when residents would begin benefiting from the Tanga–Horohoro water project.

Providing details on the project’s progress, Eng. Kundo said the ongoing works include the construction of 10 water storage tanks with a combined capacity of 2,450,000 liters, installation of pipelines covering 223.7 kilometers, and the construction of 58 water collection points.

He added that the project has reached approximately 65 percent completion and has already started supplying water to residents of Mtimbwani Village.

Furthermore, Eng Kundo noted that the project is expected to be completed by July 2026 and will benefit 57,334 residents across 37 villages in Mkinga District.

Access to clean water has been a persistent challenge in many regions of Tanzania, particularly in rural areas. The Mkinga-Horohoro water project is part of the government’s broader initiative to improve water supply and sanitation across the country. By investing in infrastructure, the Tanzanian government aims to enhance the quality of life for its citizens and promote sustainable development in the region.
