Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) has confirmed the country’s participation in the upcoming Africa Women Basketball League (AWBL), a continental club tournament organized by FIBA Africa.
Through Zone V of FIBA Africa, Tanzania will be represented by two women’s teams: Don Bosco Lioness from Dar es Salaam and Fox Divas from Mara, according to TBF Secretary-General Mwenze Kabinda.
Both teams qualified for the league after reaching the finals of the 2024 National Women’s Basketball League. Kabinda said the regional qualifiers will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from November 9 to 15.
The TBF encouraged the public to support the teams and said preparations are ongoing to ensure smooth participation in the tournament.
Meanwhile, the TBF announced plans to hold its General Assembly and elections for new federation leaders on December 7, 2025, in Dodoma. The elections, in line with the 2020 federation constitution, will see various leadership positions contested.
The outgoing TBF president is Michael Kadebe. The National Sports Council (BMT) is expected to supervise the elections to ensure transparency and compliance with governance standards.
The federation called on all stakeholders to participate in the election process and emphasized those nomination procedures and eligibility criteria will be strictly followed.
