Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA is expected to host the Africa Kabaddi Championship 2021 tournament, which will take place in Dar es Salaam from 29th June to July 5th, this year.
So far, six countries have confirmed their participation and more are anticipated to do so, according to Tanzania Kabaddi Association founder and chairman, Abdallah Nyoni.
Nyoni, who also doubles as Association of Kabaddi in Africa, revealed this at a special training held in Dar es Salaam, Wednesday which aimed at enlightening reporters on various rules and regulations of the game.
He named the countries which have confirmed to participate in the competition as Cameroon, Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya and Zimbabwe and Tanzania, as the hosts.
As Tanzania national Kabaddi team is in the preparation for the competition, the association has received thirty pairs of shoes donated by Sayona under Motsun Group of Companies and Demeter Insurance Company.
He revealed that so far the Tanzania’s Kabaddi Association has received five sponsors namely Mayfair Insurance, Phoenix Assurance, Tanzindia Insurance, Demeter Insurance, Pangani Water, Jubilee Insurance and Agro Fresh Ltd.
He thanked the stakeholders and government for facilitating the clearance of the cargo at the port as he added that 48 more pairs will be received soon.
Meanwhile, Assistant Director in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports responsible for sports infrastructure, Alex Nkeyenge said Tanzania will seize the opportunity to market itself as hosts the competition and called on stakeholders to support the new game in the country.
Kabbadi is a combative team game, played on a either in indoor or outdoor rectangular court with seven players on the ground for each sides.
