Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA Women were left to rue missed opportunities after falling just short in a tense encounter against Scotland Women during the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy at Asian Institute of Technology Ground in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday.

Batting second, the Tanzanian side finished on 148 for eight, five runs shy of the 154-run target set by Scotland.

After winning the toss, Scotland opted to bat and posted a competitive total of 153 for five.

Tanzania’s bowlers fought hard to keep the scoring in check, with Darcey Carter taking three important wickets and Rachel Slater and Chloe Abel chipping in with one each.

Scotland’s innings was anchored by a composed 76 not out from Darcey Carter, supported by contributions from Priyanaz Chatterji and Ellen Watson. Extras in the form of wides and no-balls also added to Scotland’s total, making the chase slightly trickier for Tanzania.

Tanzania began their innings with hope. Openers Saum Mtae and Fatuma Kibasu put together a 58- run opening partnership, showing patience and intent against a disciplined Scottish attack.

Mtae scored 27 from 23 balls, while Kibasu followed closely with 28 from 28 deliveries. The pair looked capable of steering Tanzania to a strong start, but the dismissal of skipper Neema Pius for a duck at 58-2 stalled the momentum.

The middle order attempted to stabilise the innings. Hudaa Omary, who remained unbeaten on 38 from 34 balls, provided some resistance alongside Jenifer Kimaro, who contributed a quickfire 23 from 16 balls.

However, regular runouts and wickets at key moments meant Tanzania struggled to maintain a consistent rate. The lower order showed glimpses of promise, with Mwanamvua Ushanga hitting 9 from 4 balls in the closing stages, but it was not enough to chase down the target.

Scottish fielding played a decisive role. Darcey Carter’s sharp bowling and three crucial wickets, combined with run-outs executed by Sarah Bryce and Priyanaz Chatterji, highlighted the fine margins of the match.

Tanzania also struggled with extras, conceding 14 runs in wides and no-balls, which added pressure during crucial phases of the innings.
