Africa-Press – Tanzania. FOR the first time in Africa, the University of Georgia in the United States has elected Tanzanian, Nichesius Godwin, as the president of the Masters, PhD and EdD students through the LEAP Graduate Student Network.

Nichesius is studying for a PhD in Education at the University.

The election sets new history, as since the establishment of the network in the 1980s, there has never been a head of state from the African continent.

This achievement reflects the efforts, ability and determination of Tanzanian youth in participating and leading in international forums.

The University of Georgia is considered to be among the first public universities in the United States, which adds to the importance of this achievement for the nation of Tanzania.

In addition to his studies, Godwin is also the Director of the Domicile of Success Organization (Doso Safespace), an institution headquartered in Mwanza that is involved in the provision of educational and social services to children, youth, women and people with disabilities.

His leadership is expected to strengthen the representation of international students and promote educational cooperation in the network.

The University of Georgia, established in 1785, is one of the oldest public universities in the United States, known for its commitment to education and research. The LEAP Graduate Student Network, formed in the 1980s, aims to foster collaboration among graduate students, but has historically lacked representation from African leaders. Godwin’s election signifies a shift towards greater inclusivity and recognition of diverse leadership in academic settings, particularly for students from Africa.
