Africa-Press – Tanzania. Deputy Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Dr Switbert Mkama, has said the Tanzanian government has taken various measures to ensure that internet data bundle prices are affordable and accessible to all Tanzanians.

He said that in 2025 the Government held discussions with internet service providers in the country, a move that resulted in reduced prices for data bundles. As a result, Tanzania is currently the second most affordable country in East Africa in terms of internet data costs, after Rwanda.

Dr Mkama made the remarks today, January 27, 2026, in Parliament in Dodoma while responding to a question from Momba Member of Parliament, Condester Sichalwe, who sought clarification on the Government’s efforts to reduce the cost of internet data bundles and make them affordable to citizens.

He explained that the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, in collaboration with its affiliated institutions responsible for the communications sector, has taken additional key measures, including ensuring fair competition among telecommunications companies. This move aims to encourage innovation and expand the availability of low-cost internet data packages that meet the financial capacity of citizens.

Additionally, the Deputy Minister said the Government has continued to invest in the construction of communication towers and data centers, initiatives intended to reduce operational costs for service providers and ultimately ensure that internet services are offered at affordable prices to all Tanzanians.
