Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA Building Agency (TBA) has embarked on construction and investment of business structures, to serve more than 5,000 prospective residents of the newly rebuilt Magomeni Kota residential houses in Dar es Salaam.
The TBA’s Acting Chief Executive, Mr Said Mndeme made the revelation in Dar es Salaam when the Regional Commissioner (RC) Mr Amos Makalla, toured the construction site to see the progress of the project.
“TBA is now constructing commercial structures which will be used for different businesses, including shops, local market and related services,” he said.
He stated that Magomeni Kota would be a home to more than 600 households, which are estimated that thousands of residents who will soon be relocated there will also offer a huge market for traders.
Mr Mndeme said that most of the prospective tenants are ordinary citizens therefore; areas for petty traders are also being considered in the planned construction of commercial areas at the new residential buildings.
He said that the government has already paid a sum of 52.1bn/- and the construction work is completed by 96pc, while construction works which includes installing electricity infrastructures and elevators are expected to be completed any time this month.
The RC Makala who however, commended TBA for the plan, calling them to wisely use the area available at Magomeni Kota for financial gains.
“Management of this residential area must decide wisely on how to use this available open space to realise strategic projects for not only benefiting residents, but also to the region’s economy at large,” said Mr Makala.
The Magomeni Kota project which involves constructing five different building blocks for residential houses started in the year 2016. The project replaces houses which were constructed at the area totaling more than 30 acres but the new development has led to using only nine acres, saving land for other commercial uses while bringing safer residence to city dwellers.
