Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Building Agency (TBA) has reaffirmed its expanding contribution to the agriculture, fisheries and livestock sectors through major infrastructure projects across the country.
Established in May 2002 under the Ministry of Works, TBA provides quality accommodation and consultancy services in the building sector.
Speaking at the Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition in Dodoma, TBA Public Relations Officer, Mr Renatus Sona highlighted the agency’s role in supporting agriculture by constructing and supervising large-scale storage facilities and food warehouses in eight regions; Dodoma, Njombe, Songwe, Rukwa, Katavi, Shinyanga, Manyara and Songea.
“This is a high-impact national project. When farmers produce their crops, the government can now reliably purchase and store them.
It ensures profit for the farmer and effective service delivery by the government. The project has already been completed in some regions,” he said.
He added that TBA is also significantly contributing to the fisheries sector, having executed two major aquaculture projects, including the construction of fish farming ponds in Mtwara Region.
“These fish ponds were not only designed by TBA but are also being supervised by our engineers to ensure quality implementation,” he noted.
“When the public visits our pavilion, they’ll learn that TBA is actively involved even in agriculture,” he added.
According to Mr Sona, the fish ponds in Mtwara have been specially designed for saltwater fish farming, given the region’s proximity to the Indian Ocean along the Lindi coastline.
“This is a well-thoughtout project involving advanced technical expertise from our specialists at TBA,” he stressed.
A similar saltwater aquaculture project is also being implemented in Kunduchi, Dar es Salaam, where TBA is responsible for both management and execution.
“So when someone wonders how TBA fits into agriculture, they should understand that we are strategic stakeholders in the sector especially given its importance to the national economy,” he said.
On the livestock front, Mr Sona said TBA has designed and implemented the construction of a modern livestock auction market at Buzirayombo, Geita Region.
“This modern livestock market was designed to meet appropriate standards and suit the environment in which it is located,” he said.
He noted that upon completion, the market will be a major boost to the livestock sector and will serve as a model for other regions.
“It will challenge the outdated perception that livestock markets must always be basic and traditional. This one will be a benchmark project,” he said.
Apart from its work in agriculture, fisheries and livestock, TBA continues to implement major residential and commercial housing projects across the country.
Some of the completed and ongoing projects include Phase Two of the Magomeni Kota residential buildings in Dar es Salaam, commercial housing units at Simeon in Arusha and public servant housing projects in Temeke, Canadian Msaki and Block C&D in Magomeni, Dar es Salaam.
Mr Sona said that citizens visiting the TBA pavilion will not only learn about the agency’s infrastructure projects, but also benefit from expert guidance on construction processes from architectural design and cost estimation to supervision and site management.
“Our specialists are available to demonstrate how you can design a beautiful, affordable house and offer advice to those facing challenges in supervising construction,” he said.
“For example, someone building a house in Dodoma while living in another region can benefit from our quantity surveyors and project managers who will guide them on remote supervision techniques,” he added.
