TANZANIA Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) in partnership with Universal Communications Services Access Fund (UCSAF) are expected to launch a community radio in Dodoma region as part of implementation of delivering communication and information service to the public through radio.

Briefing reporters over the weekend in Dar es Salaam, TBC Director General, Dr Ayub Rioba said the event is expected to be graced by the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Innocent Bashungwa and the Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Dr Faustine Ndugulile.

Dr Rioba added that UCSAF has contributed 1bn/- while TBC contributed over 350 ml/- for the community radio project in Dodoma.

He said TBC applauded the partnership from UCSAF which has been a solution for citizens to access information and communication services.

According to him, the community radio project is part of the projects which have been implemented by TBC and UCSAF on the construction of community radio studios. He mentioned the among projects which were implemented in collaboration with UCSAF and TBC such as community radio at Arusha region for the year 2017/18 where it cost 627ml/-.

Dr Rioba further point out that other ongoing projects between TBC and UCSAF include the construction of FM stations in various districts, including Ngara, Kyela, Ruangwa, Kilombero (Mulimba), Ludewa and Tanganyika (Katavi), Makete (Njombe), Uvinza (Kigoma), Mbinga (Mbinga) districts. Ruvuma) and Ngorongoro (Arusha) “These community radio projects aim at facilitating communication to people of the surrounding areas and also to access the content of their country,” he said.

UCSAF’s Chief Executive Officer, Ms Justina Mashiba added that the event which will be held on July 26 in Dodoma aimed at implementing the government’s goal of delivering communication to citizens countrywide so that they can access information and communication services.
