Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Commercial Bank (TCB) has for the first time joined the Selous marathon as a title sponsor, heading to its official flag off on June 20, 2026, in Morogoro.

The long-distance road race is aimed at boosting tourism, the economy, and protecting community health.

Speaking at the launch in Dar es Salaam, TCB’s Director of Personal Clients, Lilian Mtali, said the race will now be called the TCB Selou marathon due to the bank being the main sponsor.

“This race will now be known as the TCB Selous marathon. We will improve participation, and participants will get many opportunities and experiences. We will be nationwide. Partners will have equipment throughout the country as we have more than 82 branches and more than 900 agents. It will be easy for participants to get equipment.

She added, “We are close to the citizens of Morogoro. We will reach small and medium-sized businesses down to the village, especially those with challenges in the financial sector. We will be ready to reach out to them and provide them with banking education.

She also said that in the race they will reach out to small farmers, and at a time when they have already served many by providing agricultural loans of more than 45m/-, and this year they expect to provide more than 50 million shillings to continue supporting them.

She said that the TCB Selous marathon is going to promote domestic and international tourism because Morogoro has many attractions, beautiful surroundings, and beautiful rivers, while emphasizing that the purpose is to promote domestic and foreign tourism, which provides tourist opportunities.

“Another reason is to strengthen the relationship with the community. We will collaborate with the relevant community. This race is not only competitive but will also be accompanied by a tourism festival, community culture, entertainment of traditional dances, farmers’ products, and visiting waterfalls.

She called on Tanzanians to participate fully in training and visiting tourist areas.

For his part, the Chairman of the Selous Marathon, Imani Kajula, said that the merger of the race with TCB Bank has added great value and opened a new page of success for the competition held every year.

Kajula said this day is historic for the two institutions, as they officially collaborate to strengthen and promote the race.

“Today is a very important day because there are two great institutions that have joined forces. TCB did not make a mistake in joining us. We thank you for being part of the Selous Marathon journey. From now on, this race will be known as the TCB Selous Marathon,” said Kajula.

He added that the partnership will increase the quality of the competition, attract more participants from within and outside the country as well as strengthen the sports sector in the country.
