Africa-Press – Tanzania. TIGO Tanzania on Tuesday partnered with Milembe Insurance to start offering a digital vehicle covers.
The motor insurance service will allow customers to purchase vehicle cover policy and complete all necessary procedures using their mobile phone via Tigo Pesa. The product covers is extended to motorcycle, tricycles, tractor and earth moving plants.
The Tigo Pesa Chief Officer for Mobile Financial Service, Ms Angelica Pesha, said during the inaugural event that approximately 53.18 million people have access to mobile phones in the country but only 13 per cent of the total population have access to insurance services.
“The Tanzania insurance sector continues to exhibit several opportunities for expansion and growth, this has manifested itself through a growing middle class which is likely to create an increased demand for mobile insurance products, hence the introduction of Tigo Motor Insurance,” Ms Angelica said.
The partnership with Milembe insurance aimed to bridge the gap of access to insurance services by offering a digital solution that will cut down costs and increase access to insurance products.
Tigo Pesa has over nine million users. Milembe Chief Executive Officer Muganyizi Tibaijuka said partnering with Tigo proves yet another milestone in improving operational efficiency, and assurance of quality service delivery to the public.
“Tigo Pesa customers will exploit the comfort of buying third party motor insurance and instantly get the necessary documents on their phones. “Moreover, in the event of a motor accident if insured through Tigo Pesa, a customer will only be required to submit a digital claim notification on the phone without needing to physically visit our offices,” Mr Tibaijuka said.
