Africa-Press – Tanzania. Conservation and tourism stakeholders in the Southern Highlands have been urged to actively participate in the Serengeti Conservation and Tourism Awards (Serengeti Awards 2025), scheduled for December 2025.
The call was issued by the Assistant Director of the Tourism Department, Dainess Kunzugala, during a meeting in Iringa with tourism companies, operators, guides, accommodation providers, conservationists and organizations involved in environmental protection.
Kunzugala further noted that stakeholders should “not let this opportunity pass,” noting that applications are open across seven award categories tailored to different groups within the sector. She explained that the primary purpose of the awards is “to recognize the contribution of stakeholders and strengthen the tourism sector as a driver of national development.”
A tour guide from Mukuta Travel and Tours, Fadhili Laizer, echoed the call for broad participation, urging tourism actors in the Southern Highlands and beyond to compete in large numbers. He stressed that involvement in the awards is “vital for promoting the country’s tourism and increasing visibility both locally and internationally.”
The Chairperson of the Iringa Tourism Association, Serafina Lanz, also weighed in, calling on the government to continue developing the Southern Highlands—home to major national parks such as Nyerere and Ruaha. She argued that greater investment in these areas would uplift local communities and boost regional tourism competitiveness. Lanz further proposed that future editions of the awards be named after these iconic parks, suggesting titles like the “Nyerere Awards” or “Ruaha Awards” to strengthen identity and regional pride.
With stakeholders rallying behind the initiative, expectations are high that the Serengeti Awards 2025 will spotlight achievements and inspire greater conservation and tourism excellence nationwide.
