Africa-Press – Tanzania. SIMBA said they have been honoured by TP Mazembe by agreeing to brighten the climax of ‘Simba Day’ festival on September 19th at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The Democratic Republic of Congo giants are on record to have lifted the CAF Champions League title five times in 1967, 1968, 2009, 2010 and 2015, hence they are ideal choice of test for the country’s champions.
Simba believe TP Mazembe is a perfect platform to weigh their squad prior to the start of the 2021/22 season.
In his remarks yesterday, the club’s Acting Information Officer Ezekiel Kamwaga said TP Mazembe rarely play friendly matches outside their country as such, to have them on the epicenter of Simba Day is a great honour to them.
In another development, Simba announced that they have picked Arusha for their second pre-season drills according to the preference of the technical bench which wanted a cool place with good training facilities.
The champions are expected to stay put in Arusha for two weeks before jetting back to Dar es Salaam to play an international friendly match on the epicenter of their Simba Day on September 19th.
This happens to be Simba’s second camp after the one they had in Morocco where they got an opportunity to play two friendly games against AS Far Rabat and Olympique Club de Khouribga which ended 2-2 and 1-1 respectively.
Speaking in the city yesterday, the club’s Acting Information Officer Ezekiel Kamwaga admitted that the technical bench proposed to have the camp conducted there.
“They wanted a place with good infrastructure and weather to refresh players. After the camp which is set to consume two weeks, the team will return back to Dar es Salaam for further preparations ahead of the difficult 2021/22 season,” said him.
Elaborating on the approaching Simba Day, Kamwaga explained there are many big things which have been installed to glorify the day and make it more extraordinary than the previous ones.
“One indicator which shows that we are going to have a unique Simba Day is the way our members and fans are purchasing tickets for the big day.
“As I speak now, platinum tickets which are sold at 200,000/- each are just halfway before ending with many days to go before the event itself so, you can imagine that people are looking forward to get access into the stadium on the day,” Kamwaga said.
He also said the massive sell of jerseys across the country is also another indicative measure to forecast that the looming Simba Day will be special and one of its kind.
“With our slogan ‘One Team, One Dream’, we want to encourage Simba fraternity to descend at the hosting venue in big number to show the world how big the club is,” said him.
He also said until now, Simba have not paraded the list of players who will trade there for the coming season as such, people should be patient until they declare which players will remain.
