Africa-PressTanzania. TANZANIA Revenue Authority (TRA) in Rukwa Region has managed to collect over 4.419bn/ between April and June this year, which is a 110 per cent increase compared to 4.012bn/- targets set up.

Rukwa Regional TRA Manager, Mr Fredrick Kanyilili disclosed that during the Regional Consultative Committee (RCC) meeting held here recently under the chairmanship of Regional Commissioner (RC) Mr Joseph Mkirikiti.

He further disclosed that the 4.35bn/- which is equivalent to 129 per cent of the total amount of 3.36bn/- is local collection while 56.23bn/-, equal to 10 per cent of a total amount of 553.20bn/- is customs collections.

Mr Kanyilili further told the gathering that one of the challenges the tax authority is facing is that traders do not issue receipts.

“Despite our regular public education, they either give false receipts or not issue them at all” he added.

He further noted that another challenge the revenue authority is facing is the shortage of TRA staff based at Kabwe, Kasanga and Kipili Custom Posts along the shoreline of Lake Tanganyika in Kalambo and Nkasi Districts.

RC Mkirikiti appealed to Tanzanians to pay taxes as required by the laws to enhance economic development and avoid unnecessary inconveniences that may occur due to non-compliance.

“Traders in the region must ensure that pay the taxes on time. This will enable the government to render the necessary services including health, education and other sectors “emphasized the RC.

Equally, the RC urged traders to be honest and trustful when conducting their businesses in the line with government directives.
