Twiga Stars seek to turn tables vs Namibia today

Africa-Press – Tanzania. TWIGA Stars have a thick forest to cross as they face Namibia in the second leg of the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers to be staged in South Africa today. The country’s flag bearers will be eyeing to revenge a 2-1 setback they suffered in the first leg encounter at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday.

Already, the team’s Head Coach Bakari Shime has assured Tanzanians that his side is still capable to produce tangible results from the away territory and make it to the next round.

“The first thing now is for us to get back to our usual format of play and in terms of potential, I believe that we are capable to turn things around in the next match,” said Shime at a post- match briefing.

He also elaborated that a workable game plan that their opponents came with was also the reason which made them to lose the match on the day.

“Fatigue, injuries and the celebration mood after winning the COSAFA title made us to delay in coming up for today’s (Wednesday) match,” said him.

On his part, Namibia coach Woody Jacobs was full of praise to his players for a good job well done against what he termed as one of the strong women teams on the continent.

“This victory is very special to us because it was a team effort as we gave it all against a very good opponent. We are just happy to beat the COSAFA champions. On her part, Zenatha Coleman who scored a brace on the day lauded Twiga Stars that they are among the best teams on the continent while insisting that they will work hard to register another win in the return match. “The good thing is that we have managed to get the results we highly wanted even though fatigue affected us especially in the second half of the game,” Coleman who plays professional football in Spain said. She was really the game changer throughout the tense encounter by encouraging her teammates to work hard whenever they seemed to be under pressure.

Meanwhile, some Tanzanians via social media platforms have urged the team’s technical bench to strength the goalkeeping section saying the previous shot-stopper was not up for the task as she let in simple goals especially the second one which came from a set-piece.
