Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE United Nations (UN) in Tanzania considers adding more time for funding and implementation of development projects in refugees host family in Kigoma region.
The move comes after realizing that the projects, run jointly by 16 UN agencies, have positively impacted the communities.
The UN Resident Coordinator in Tanzania, Mr Zlatan Milisic, said this when concluding his two-day visit to inspect UN-funded projects in Kigoma region implemented through the Kigoma Joint Programme (KJP) by 16 UN agencies.
Milisic stated that the implemented projects have shown positive results and hence the United Nations is considering a five-year period extension of funding for those projects which scheduled to end in July 2022.
The coordinator said the United Nations was satisfied with the positive results upon implementation of projects which focused on health, education, environment, water, sanitation, economic empowerment and food and nutrition issues.
He said the UN recognizes the significant contribution of the Tanzanian government through its citizens in Kigoma region on receiving and sheltering refugees from the Great Lakes region, which is a testimony of their love despite effects caused by the presence of the refugees.
Earlier Kasulu District Commissioner, Colonel Isack Mwakisu said that Kasulu district has benefited greatly from the implementation of projects under the Kigoma Joint Program (KJP) and that it has brought about positive changes for the development of the people of the district.
Mwakisu said the project has contributed significantly to economic empowerment for youth and women groups, and improved education, water and other development activities.
