Africa-PressTanzania. AZAM have a mountain to climb in the away second leg match after their barren draw with Pyramid of Egypt in Azam Complex on Saturday.

The country’s envoys in the Confederation Cup have to win at any cost or force a draw with goals in Egypt next week.

George Lwandamina charges seemed a bit promising in the first half but their Congolese striker Idris Mbombo failed to find the back of the net for either he shot straight in the hands of Pyramid goalkeeper or sent the ball above the cross bar.

In the 39th and 41st minutes, Iddi Suleiman Nado and Mbombo respectively came close to score, but their shots missed the target and in the 42nd minute, Pyramid responded by launching an attack, but Azam’s Ugandan international, Mathias Chigonya saved it.

In the 48th minute Iddi Nado was shown a yellow card for fouling Pyramid player and in 54th minute a diving header from Pyramid’s Mohamed El Abass went wide. Mathias Chigonya did another heroic save as this time denying Pyramid’s attacks in 60th minute and in two minutes later the former Buildcom goal keeper did another save to mark good evening for short stopper.

To ease pressure on Azam, coach Lwandamina decided to rest Never Tegere and Ayoub Lyanga came into his place and the substitution helped Azam as they occasionally threatened their opponents with a bit of fast breaking attack.

In 76th minute Pyramid’s Mohamed Sheladin was shown a yellow card for rough tackle on Azam’s Prosper Majala and in 80th minute Edward Manyama free kick flew just a few inches over a cross bar before Mbombo missing glorious chance in the 90th minute.
