Africa-Press – Tanzania. VICE-PRESIDENT Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi is set to present Tanzania’s priorities and contribute to shaping the future strategic direction of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) as it approaches its 50th anniversary.
According to a statement issued yesterday by the Vice-President’s Office, Dr Nchimbi arrived in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, to represent President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the 11th OACPS Heads of State and Government Summit, scheduled to take place from today to Sunday.
The statement noted that Tanzania’s participation reflects its continued commitment to active engagement in regional and international fora, as well as its contribution to global development dialogue and cooperation.
During the summit, the Vice-President is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with various leaders to strengthen economic and development cooperation. Meanwhile, preparations for the organisation’s 50th anniversary are underway.
The celebrations were officially launched during the 119th Session of the OACPS Council of Ministers held on Tuesday in Brussels, Belgium.
Established on June 6, 1975, in Georgetown, Guyana, the OACPS has grown from 46 to 79 member states across Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific.
The organisation is founded on principles of unity in diversity, solidarity, and enhanced economic and trade cooperation among developing countries.
Tanzania has been a member of the organisation, formerly known as the ACP Group, since its inception and continues to play an active role, particularly in fostering cooperation with the European Union (EU).
Tanzania’s engagement with the OACPS, especially under the Samoa Agreement with the EU, is aligned with its national development agenda, including the Development Vision 2025 and the emerging Vision 2050.
Key priority areas guiding Tanzania’s participation include economic transformation and industrialisation, infrastructure development, sustainable agriculture and food security, human capital development, as well as climate change and the blue economy
The Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) was established in 1975 to foster cooperation among developing countries. It has expanded from 46 to 79 member states, focusing on economic and trade collaboration. Tanzania has been a member since the beginning, actively participating in initiatives that align with its national development goals, such as the Development Vision 2025 and Vision 2050.
