Africa-Press – Tanzania. YOUNG Africans Competition Committee Vice- Chairman Hersi Said has admitted their traditional rivals Simba are better side compared to them.
He said during a recent interview with one of the FM stations in Dar es Salaam that they are currently no match to their rivals, who have a strong side, which they have developed over the past four -five years.
Said, who is also club’s Vice- Chairman of Players’ Registration Committee added that Yanga is currently working on building a strong team, which can match their rivals’ success. “Realistically, Simba are far better side than Yanga at the moment.
I think it is a big mistake for our fans making that comparison because we are currently in the process of building a strong squad,” he said.
“The success which our rivals are enjoying at the moment is because they had already built their squad for a long period and their players’ performance on the pitch didn’t come overnight.
“And, that is the process which we will certainly pass through,” added Said, who is also the Investment Director of GSM Company, Yanga’s main sponsor.
When inquired about the promise he made during the kickoff of the 2020/21 season that he will be answerable, if Yanga will not be crowned champion at the end of this season, he played it down.
He responded that it was usual for a big club of Yanga stature to have such target of being champions and that is the only thing fans want to hear.
“We are in good direction. We have a lot of positive impact since we started to invest in the club,” “When we came in we found the club in deep financial crisis from administration to team preparations’ costs.
“For example, before we came in, the team was usually camping in Manzese but now a lot has changed … we are now camping in a much respectful and conducive environment, as we are committed to restore the team’s image and lost glory,” he said.
He added; “We are going to start from where we ended this season, to ensure we build a strong team that can compete in both local and international competitions”.
In another development, Said defended the transfer business he made during the transfer window, disclosing that players signings business is like ‘gambling’.
Yanga will need miracles to win the league title this season, meaning it will be their fourth straight season without the title, which they won 27 times.
Their rivals and reigning league champions, Simba who recently earned a 3-0 victory over Ruvu Shooting to open a six-point clear at the summit need just ten points from their remaining seven matches to win their fourth straight title.
Simba sit top on 67 points from 27 games, while Yanga are placed second on the log with 61 points from 29 games. Azam FC are settled in the third position with 60 points from 30 outings.
