Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA have been urged to continue embracing and promoting the growing manufacturing sector in the country in order to reduce dependence on imported goods and create more jobs and trade opportunities.

The call was made over the weekend by Dr Christopher Kalila from the Zambia National Assembly who is also the Chairman of the Committee on Health, Community Development and Social Services when he toured Kairuki Pharmaceuticals Industry Limited in Coast Region.

Dr Kalila and other nine members from the Zambia’s National Assembly are in the country on a tour aimed at benching the environment of local pharmaceutical companies in both countries.

According to Dr Kalila the ten members of Zambia’s National Assembly toured the country to observe various issues including production of medical drugs in Tanzania .

The team visited the Kairuki Pharmaceuticals Industry Limited which have installed modern technology equipment for best quality of products.

The firm which started its operation early this year aims at producing various of types of medicine for local and international market.

During the tour at the industry commended the move of Tanzania to promote the thriving manufacturing industry which will reduce the country’s burden of importing of various goods from abroad especially medicines.

“ It high time our countries encouraged construction of own manufacturing industries which will reduce depending on importing goods such as medicine by starting making our own medicines instead of importing them,”

He added that making our medicines apart from promoting construction of our Pharmaceutical industries , the move will as well be a vehicle for job creation in our countries especially for science graduate and others .

Giving an example of how the move is credited , he disclosed that during the last Covid -19 outbreak most of the countries were in locked up and there strict movement of people and goods and most of imports for many African countries were not received on time so making our medicine ourselves will curb effect stop relying manufacturers from abroad.

Further he insisted on promoting inter-trade between countries through the Africa Continent Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as to solve the issue of lack of market as Africa continent is a huge market .

On her part the Kairuki Pharmaceuticals industry limited, Ellen Magita disclosed that the firm has the capacity of producing 55 million water drips per year and have signed a two year contract with the government to supply the product which was used to be imported to Medical Stores Department(MSD) were over one million have been supplied .
