Africa-PressTanzania. FIRST lady Mariam Mwinyi has told the Union of Women in Tanzania (UWT) to use its celebrations as opportunity to make self-assessment over its own prosperity and contribution to nation’s development.

The First Lady further challenged the women wing to evaluate how it has contributed to efforts of strengthening Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party.

“We need to evaluate ourselves as we celebrate. Have we been meaningful to our members (Women), the union, the party, and our country,” the wife of President Hussein Ali Mwinyi said over weekend in her speech on the occasion of UWT-2021 celebrations held at the Miembeni Kindergarten School, Urban West Region Unguja.

In her remarks, she said the gathering which involved UWT members and other CCM leaders, Government leaders and members of the CCM, meant to celebrate and evaluate the progress made in various fields.

She expressed his admiration over the entrepreneurship classes at Miembeni Kindergarten area which has been set up to provide entrepreneurship education to young girls and men who were not fortunate enough to continue to secondary education as well as vulnerable groups.

The first lady explained that the UWT effort to strengthen entrepreneurship education was in supporting the commitment by Government and CCM election manifesto to create at least 300,000 jobs by 2025.

She said: “This is an indication of a bright future for our people, particularly women and young people as promised by President Hussein Ali Mwinyi. The government is also currently finalizing the process of merging all entrepreneurial funds into one solid Fund with the aim of ensuring effectiveness, to provide affordable loans to various groups of entrepreneurs.”

First lady also encouraged Banks and other financial institutions to continue to support the ongoing efforts by the Government to strengthen entrepreneurship by issuing soft loans.

In addition, the First Lade urged CCM leaders and members to embrace the Blue economy by establishing groups that will address and strengthen seaweed farming, promote modern fishing and tourism, and also getting prepared for the expected oil and gas explorations.

She also called on UWT to plan and implement new strategies that will enable them to work more closely with widows and their communities as the number of abandoned children increases.

The UWT celebrations were held in Pemba Island from September 28, 2021 and will climax today.

Mr Said Kheri Ame, Headmaster of the Entrepreneurship Training Centre said the centre was established in May, 2019, and has been providing various courses for young men and women, who were not fortunate enough to continue to secondary education.
