Africa-Press – Tanzania. ZANZIBAR is positioning itself to reap economic gains through conference tourism as it prepares to host a major continental gathering of women doctors, with President Hussein Ali Mwinyi pledging full government support for the event.
The Isle’s President made the remarks at the State House after meeting leaders of the Medical Women Association of Tanzania, who unveiled plans to host the African Women Doctors Annual General Meeting in Zanzibar on May 5, 2027.
The conference is expected to bring together about 400 medical professionals from across the continent.
Dr Mwinyi described international conferences as strategic platforms for promoting Zanzibar globally, particularly in boosting tourism, noting that participants often become long-term ambassadors for the destination in their respective countries.
“The hosting of such high-level meetings presents a valuable opportunity to market Zanzibar and strengthen the tourism sector,” he said.
Additionally, he commended the association for selecting Zanzibar as the host and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing the necessary support to ensure the success of the conference.
The delegation, led by MEWATA President Mary Mwanyika Sandoo, expressed readiness to organise the event, highlighting its potential to foster professional exchange and collaboration among women in the medical field across Africa.
