Africa-PressTanzania. PRESIDENT Hussein Mwinyi has pledged cooperation and improvement of the investment environment with Nordic countries, vowing to devise more friendly policies and regulations.

Dr Mwinyi was speaking during his meeting with four Nordic ambassadors to Tanzania.

They included Denmark’s Mette Norgaard Dissing-Spandet, Finland’s Riita Swan, Anders Sjoberg of Sweden and Elizabeth Jacobse of Norway.

According to the Statement from Zanzibar State House, DR Mwinyi said his government is committed to continue working closely with Nordic countries.

“Zanzibar is committed to strengthening good relations with the Nordic countries… we are also looking forward to continuing with cooperation in achieving various development goals,” he noted.

President Mwinyi added that his government is focused on building up the blue economy, which in one way or another will help to boost the isles economy.

He said the government plans to establish a special investment center that will bring together all the operations under “One Stop Center.”

“On behalf of the people in Zanzibar, I thank you for your willingness to continue working with the government to meet our development goals,” Dr Mwinyi said.

“Boosting tourism, improving health and education, building the blue economy are among our priorities in bringing changes to the people of Zanzibar,” he added.

President Mwinyi said his government is also keen on strengthening the energy sector, establishing industries and drawing strategies for environmental conservation.

President Mwinyi asked for support in strengthening the health sector especially at this time when the World is battling Covid-19.

He noted that the outbreak of the Covid-19 has significantly affected the development of the tourism sector, which plays a big part in Zanzibar’s economy.

On their part, the ambassadors congratulated President Mwinyi for emerging the winner in the last general elections, which also led to the formation of the Government of National Unity (GNU).

Danish Ambassador to Tanzania, Ms Dissing-Spandet said Denmark is looking forward to continuing supporting Zanzibar in various areas, especially in improving the health sector.

Finnish Ambassador, Ms Swan said the government’s ommitment to build the blue economy will greatly benefit Zanzibar due to her conducive environment and availability of reliable markets for seafood and other related products.

Swedish Ambassador, Mr Sjoberg and Norwegian Ambassador, Ms Jacobse expressed their governments’ intention to support Zanzibar’s efforts in developing the energy sector through the Zanzibar Electricity Corporation (ZECO).
