AfricaPress-Tanzania: KINONDONI District Commissioner Daniel Chongolo has commended Kinondoni Municipal Council for the progress of the project to construct 110 classrooms.

The project aims at ensuring more students are enrolled in primary and secondary schools this year. Mr Chongolo expressed this on Wednesday when he inspected the project.

He said he expected the work to be completed by the end of this month. He commended Municipal Director Aron Kagurumjuli for ensuring the speedy implementation of the project.

“For this I commend the municipal director and your team. When you inspect other councils you will find out there is no even a brick to encourage you, that something is going on, but here in Kinondoni I have witnessed classrooms being constructed and some are already in use,” said Mr Chongolo.

Mr Chongolo noted that on February 5, this year, the classrooms would be launched as part of the commemoration of the CCM anniversary.

The construction of 110 classrooms is worth more than 2bn/-, of which 46 are for primary schools and 64 are for secondary schools, all of which will be completed by the end of this month.

According to Municipal Mayor Songoro Mnyonge the success in this progress was a result of Mr Kagurumjuli’s good supervision where the budget used was from internal sources.

The DC was accompanied by the District Defence and Security Committee, CCM party leaders at district level, the mayor, heads of departments and various experts.

Recently, President John Magufuli issued directives to Dar es Salaam regional authorities to ensure classrooms were constructed and desks were supplied at King’ongo Primary School in Ubungo District after being reported on social media that pupils were still sitting on the floor.

President Magufuli made the directives in Bukoba during the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of a vocational education training centre (VETA) and the launch of the reconstructed Ihungo Secondary School.
