AfricaPress-Tanzania: BAD behaviour in schools, including absenteeism can be tackled should parents, teachers and other members of the public act tough.

This advice was issued here recently by Ms Safia Ali Rijali, the Director, Department of Preprimary & Lower Education in the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.

“There has been significant progress in stemming indiscipline in schools, but there is yet much to be done. We need concerted efforts involving everyone to have disciplined children, both in schools and in the society,” Ms Rijali said.

According to the ministry, persistent absence, bullying, and involvement in love/sexual affairs remain a challenge in schools.

Talking to parents and teachers in Unguja north, Ms Rijali pointed out that immoral behaviour highly contributes to underage pregnancy and other child abuses in schools.

Mr Salum Omar, a parent in the region said tackling student misbehavior is among the greatest challenges facing today’s school life, urging his fellow parents and teachers to promote behavior change.

Ms Rijali’s office has been organizing meetings with different groups of people, including parents, teachers, students, and local leaders to try and control bad behaviour in schools, a necessity that also helps improve performance in examinations.
