AfricaPress-Tanzania: A GROUP of civilians in the Democratic Republic of Congo were witnessed marching in the streets to pay tribute to the fallen African hero, President John Magufuli who passed away in Dar es Salaam last week. The group was seen parading in Goma streets last Thursday, where most of its members were youth.

Accompanied with mourning songs and pictures of President Magufuli, they celebrated his exemplary life during his leadership.

Wearing black, they paraded holding flowers while escorted with mourning songs. Among the songs played during the parade was ‘Asante sana’ written and sung by Tanzanian artistes from Konde Gang under Rajabu Kahali, popularly known as ‘Harmonize’. The video had circulated throughout several social media platforms.

Apart from the parade, one of the group members issued the group message, which spoke highly of President Magufuli. He noted, “…We will never forget you Magufuli for your strong determination, you refused to be corrupt, you set a great example to other African leaders, that African goals or resources from the continent must not be exploited by foreigners.”

During the state funeral in Dodoma, the President of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Felix Tshisekedi spoke highly of the late President Magufuli, describing him as a determined leader who always wanted to see Africa growing socially and economically.

President Tshisekedi called on Tanzanians to strengthen their unity to heed the legacy of President Magufuli, especially his commitment to spearheading the country’s socioeconomic development. President Tshisekedi said Dr Magufuli was against embezzlement of public funds and corruption, which he described as a cancer which delayed development on the continent.

“During his leadership, President Magufuli, among other things, led the fight against grand corruption which was attributed to delays in development on the continent,” he said.

The late President Magufuli was yesterday laid to rest at his family graveyards in Chato District, Geita region. The late Dr Magufuli who led the country from November 2015 to March 17th, 2021, died at the age of 61 on Wednesday last week at Mzena hospital in Dar es Salaam region, where he was receiving treatment for heart illness, a condition he had fought for more than a decade.
