AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE government has asked Mufindi-South Member of Parliament, Mahmoud Mgimwa (CCM) to officially submit a proposal to upgrade the rank of the Mtiti—Ifwagi—Mdaburo—Ihanu—Mlimba
The state said it is a vital road linking Mufindi and Kilolo districts to Morogoro and Iringa regions.
President John Magufuli had initially promised to upgrade the rank of the road from the one under the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (Tarura) to Tanzania Roads Agency (Tanroads).
He made the promise during his tenure as Minister for Works, according to the Mufindi-South lawmaker.
The MP wanted to know the timeframe as to when the government would uplift the rank of the valuable road. Minister for Works, Transport and Communication, Eng. Isaac Kamwelwe acknowledged that the road meets all the requirements prescribed under the Roads Act no. 13 of 2007 and its regulations of 2009.
“All the procedures to upgrade the road from district to the regional level have been itemized under the roads act. I advised the legislator to write a proposal to request an upgrade as per the existing procedures,” the minister said.
The government established the Tanzania rural and urban roads agency in 2017, charging it with overseeing and maintaining all village and district roads.
The principal goal for Tarura is to ensure all the roads have utmost attention, more than when the roads were under the districts and township councils.
The minister, however, called for parliamentarians to grant appropriate cooperation with the new agency in a view of ensuring it fully executes its duties diligently.
Eng. Kamwelwe said the Mtiri—Ifwagi—Ihanu—Isipi—Mpangataraza through Mlimba was under Tarura.
He said the agency has thus been maintaining the road similar to other roads that are under district authorities in the country.
