AfricaPress-Tanzania: PRESIDENT Hussein Mwinyi has offered condolences to Ms Janeth Magufuli (widow), the family and Vice-President (VP) Samia Suluhu Hassan and all Tanzanians following the untimely death of President John Magufuli last Wednesday.

In a condolence message, Dr Mwinyi said he received with great sadness the news of the death of Dr Magufuli, “This is a very big loss to us and the nation. I ask the people to be patient and calm in this difficult time.”

“On behalf of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar and the people here, I offer my sincere condolences. It is with great sadness that I have received the news of the death of John Magufuli. Let us pray to Allah so that the soul of our beloved leader may rest in peace,” Dr Mwinyi said in his condolences.

The VP announced on Wednesday night that President Magufuli had died at Mzena Hospital in Dar es Salaam where he was hospitalised after developing heart complications.

Other people who offered condolences are Mr Salum Biman of ACT-Wazalendo, who described Dr Magufuli as a great leader who loved his country.

Mr Biman said the best way to honour Magufuli was to follow and implement his good and workable ideas such as remaining united, fighting against corruption and maintaining accountability in the government.

CCM Zanzibar Special Committee Ideology and Publicity Secretary Catherine Peter Nao also offered the party’s condolences saying: “We received with great shock the news about the death of our beloved leader Magufuli. May he rest in peace. This is the time to come together as one.”

She said Dr Magufuli would be remembered by the majority of Tanzanians for being close to them particularly in the fight for their rights and promoting good governance in the country as well as ensuring peace and political stability.

National chairperson of ADA-TADEA political party Juma Ali Khatib said: “This is definitely a big loss to the developing nation of Tanzania. He has gone too soon, leaving most of unfinished work. But fortunately his assistants are good and they will maintain his speed.”

He said the people of Tanzania would continue mourning because Dr Magufuli pushed and acted faster in development programmes – socially and economically, allowing trade and investment opportunities.

Clerics such as Anglican Church Bishop, Dr Michael Hafidh, said the death of Dr Magufuli had been so painful, while Mr Dickson Kaganga of the Tanzanian Assemblies of God (TAG) said: “It was a big shock to many.”
