AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) has recovered 578m/- and properties in Arusha Region in three months.
Out of the amount recovered from October to December 2020, 365m/- was in cash, partly government tax and cooperative loans. There were also complaints from residents that would most likely not get their right if PCCB did not intervene.
Arusha Regional PCCB Head James Ruge said on Saturday that the cash money and properties were defrauded by public officials, leaders and members of cooperative societies, employers and dishonest individuals.
Mr Ruge, who was speaking about a three-month strategy from this January, said the money and properties, including vehicles and houses, had been handed over to legal owners – whether individuals, institutions or the government.
PCCB in the region is also going on with other responsibilities through its different desks such as investigation, prosecution and raising public awareness on the prevention of corrupt practices and taking action against the culprits.
From October through December, 474 cases were received from different sectors and 212 investigation files opened and is investigation is going on at different levels. Likewise, PCCB has filed five new cases in court, while 45 other cases are being heard in court, 16 cases have been determined with the Republic winning 13 of them.
PCCB also analysed the general election system, as well as Arusha Regional Office National Social Security Fund (NSSF) performance to identify corruption loopholes and advise how to seal them in the right way.
PCCB also is inspecting development projects implemented at the government’s expense to ensure laws, regulations and procedures are adhered to.
