AfricaPress-Tanzania: The Police Force said Friday ex-convicts are to blame for the rising robbery incidences but warned such felonies won’t be tolerated.

It also warned parents for their recklessness that is triggering pathetic child molestation and rape cases in society.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Simon Sirro said in the country’s commercial capital Dar es Salaam that ex-convicts are increasingly targeting banks and mobile money shops.

“Tanzanians have forgotten about guns. Tanzanians have forgotten about robberies at their banks,” he said.

The Police boss added: “This administration does not entertain robberies or terrorism… If you get involved in this business do not blame the government.”

The Police said criminal instances dropped by 13.5 per cent in 2019/20. The force wants parents to conduct due diligence before they admit their child into religious and early schools.

The police categorically, want mothers and fathers to be responsible in taking care of their children or else they will lose them.

Under Tanzania’s statutory rape laws, a person who has sex with a person under 18 years’ risks criminal charges and a jail or prison sentence for not less than 30 years.

Unfortunately, the IGP alleged that those involved in such immoral acts include religious leaders.
