AfricaPress-Tanzania: REGIONAL Commissioner (RC) for North Pemba Region, Salama Mbarouk Khatib has said community participation in decision-making processes should be encouraged to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs).

“Let us involve people in decision-making processes during the implementation of our programmes. They should own planned activities,” Ms Khatib said during a handover ceremony between her and incoming District Commissioner (DC) for Micheweni Mohamed Seif Mkobani.

Ms Khatib was the DC for Micheweni before the recent appointment to RC by President Hussein Ali Hassan Mwinyi last Monday when he swore in new permanent secretaries he appointed last weekend.

Mr Mkobani promised to be close to members of the public, listen to them and also consider their opinions in the implementation of projects and the 2020-2025 CCM Manifesto.

It was a week for the incoming five regional commissioners, 11 district commissioners and the 15 permanent secretaries to be handed over offices by the outgoing ones who had served in the past government under retired President, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein.

During the swearing-in of the new leaders, President Mwinyi said he had decided to have few or no deputy ministers and deputy permanent secretaries to minimise government expenditures, promising also to review the number of departments in each ministry.

He asked the appointees to work hard for the development of Zanzibar and avoid corrupt practices, laziness, fishy deals and promote financial discipline in all public offices, including promoting electronic payment systems.
