AfricaPress-Tanzania: RESIDENTS of Serengeti District in Mara Region are mourning the death of Mbalibali Councillor (CCM) John Chacha Ng’oina who died at his residence in Mugumu at the weekend.

They said the councillor was among a few leaders who had vision and had managed to bring positive change in the area by initiating a number of development projects.

Ng’oina has served as councillor in Serengeti for about 20 years and he also served as chairman of Serengeti District Council for several terms in preceding governments.

“This is big loss to us. Mzee Ng’oina has served as councillor for about 20 years and also was the council chairman for a long time and at different times,” Serengeti District Council Executive Director (DED) Juma Hamsini told ‘africa-press’.

DED Hamsini added: “Ng’oina was a truly man of vision and development. He initiated many development projects like the current famous Machochwe Secondary at his home village.”

He has been fighting for his life for several years due to kidney complications until Friday midnight when he died.

He will also be remembered for the construction of a new Serengeti District Hospital which has started offering treatment services in the district.

He is also the man behind the idea of constructing a modern airport, Mugumu, as part of the efforts to transform the township into a tourist hub.

Civil servants and Serengeti residents expressed their grief over Ng’oina’s death via social media, especially Facebook, describing the death of Ng’oina as a big gap that may not be replaced.

“This is a big loss for the Serengeti family. It is indeed sad that a leader like John Ng’oina has passed away. He did all what he could to serve his people and his party, CCM,” Chief Mosabi, a resident of Serengeti, said.

Ng’oina was laid to rest at his home village of Mbalimbali yesterday.
