AfricaPress-Tanzania: FOR the first time, Tanzania will have information communications technology (ICT) registered experts, who will be issued with certificates, the government has said.

Permanent Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology, Dr Zainab Chaula, said during a press conference that the first 100 ICT experts would be given certificates for registration during the Tanzania Annual ICT Conference 2020 (TAIC2020) scheduled for between October 7 and 9, 2020.

With the theme: ‘Towards the 4th Industrial Revolution, the conference according to Dr Chaula, will bring various stakeholders in the ICT sector who will deliberate on several issues which will help the country to achieve its middle-income economy agenda by 2025.

At the conference, Dr Chaula reiterated commitment to supporting and developing ICT experts in the country, saying they were key people in the ambitious industrial economy agenda.

She said the recognition of the ICT experts was in line with the National ICT Policy 2016 which provided that ICT was central to competitive social and economic transformation.

The PS further insisted that to start with during the launch of the registration, 100 ICT experts would be registered and given certificates, noting that it would be an ongoing activity.

Dr Chaula said for a long time there had been many experts supervising ICT infrastructure, service and systems whose credibility and integrity was not clearly known.

“The government recognises that effective use of information and knowledge is key to rapid socioeconomic growth,” she said. Speaking on the forthcoming ICT conference she called all ICT experts in the country to attend.

The conference, which has been organised by the ICT Commission (ICTC), will be held at Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking on the three-day event, TAIC-2020 Organising Committee Chairman Tumaini Magila said: “As with previous three conferences, TAIC-2020 aims at bringing together stakeholders, including academia, researchers, development partners, the business community, the youth in digital innovation spaces and practitioners in ICT industry to discuss career path development, digital economy development and sector contribution to the national economy.”

He said theme for this year’s conference considered current practices, challenges and opportunities towards the fourth industrial revolution.  He said the industry was undergoing transformation and evolution towards complete digitisation and intelligent production processes to ensure efficiency.

“To achieve these goals, it is necessary to implement new technologies for the automation of industrial processes,” he added.

According to him, the TAIC-2020, therefore, aims at providing a forum for researchers and practitioners in the ICT industry to share their latest practices, research findings and identify future challenges and opportunities in the fourth industrial revolution, adding that it also aimed at bringing together stakeholders, including government decision-makers and policy-shapers at the highest level together.
