AfricaPress-Tanzania: TANZANIA Education Network (TenMeT) has requested the government to improve five key areas that will help speed up development in the education sector.
Speaking yesterday in Dar es Salaam, TenMet National Coordinator, Mr Ochola Wayoga, mentioned one of them as maintaining cleanliness in school premises as a preventive measure against diseases such as coronavirus.
He said the government should also develop guidelines for counseling services in schools to ensure that teachers and students are well prepared psychologically and promote the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in learning.
The government should also improve alternative education pathways due to the increased demand of students to access education in vocational education institutions. He said that awareness on preventive measures against coronavirus should be continuous in communities, in order to protect children against contracting the disease.
Mr Ochola commended the government for taking necessary steps to control the spread of Covid-19 and appreciated the contribution of Non-governmental Organisation (NGOs).
TenMet called upon the community and other education stakeholders in general to protect all children in the country.
According to him, they had taken the initiative to collaborate with government officials from (RALG and MoEST), development partners and other education stakeholders to discuss the infrastructure that will ensure students’ safety when they return to school.
