AfricaPress-Tanzania: AFTER the Government banned the use of plastic bags, it has now taken further steps by extending until April 8, 2021 the end of the use of plastic packaging used to pack small items including water, nuts and sorghum.

Minister Ummy’s statement came as recently the Director General of the National Environmental Management and Conservation Council (NEMC), Engineer Samuel Gwamaka was quoted as saying that they had discovered that the packaging was produced in large quantities in various sizes and had been used as bags in the market.

He said in the recent past there has been an increase in the production of plastic packaging for “tubings” used to pack products such as peanuts, sorghum and ice, without a permit from the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) and a seal or label. ) as rule number three directs.
