AfricaPress-Tanzania: DAR ES SALAAM Catholic Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Ruwa’ichi has described former President John Magufuli as a true believer of God who also cherished the justice, peace and unity of the country.

Speaking on Saturday, he asked Tanzanians from all walks of life to honour the legacy that the former Head of State had left in the country, by praying for his soul to rest in peace after accomplishing what he had been called for in the country.

Archbishop Ruwa’ich made a statement as he  was giving a homily during requiem mass for President Magufuli at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

“As we mourn the death of our beloved Dr Magufuli we must remember that he was a true believer of God, a hardworking person, as well as a champion of peace and justice,” he said in his homily.

During his lifetime, Dr Magufuli on various occasions insisted national unity and to pray to God to save the country from different challenges.

As the Head of State, he demonstrated his faith in God after asking the country to have national prayers to pray to God to save the country from the coronavirus pandemic.

Furthermore, Archbishop Ruwa’ich asked Tanzanians to keep praying for the country’s unity and solidarity for it to continue going on the right path.

“We need to take heart during this difficult and challenging moment that has faced our country. We have to pray for our President Samia Suluhu Hassan so that she can continue being strong and courageous to lead us,” he said.

He was optimistic that President Samia Suluhu Hassan would deliver to public expectations since she had worked with Dr Magufuli as Vice-President for the past five years and four months.

“As she has worked closely with the former President, then there is no doubt that she knows well the country with all the plans that are in place for the development of our nation,” he said.
