Z’BAR GOVT ORDERS PEMBA HOSPITAL TO IMPROVE HEALTH SERVICE PROVISION

AfricaPress-Tanzania: ZANZIBAR government has directed the management of Pemba main hospital -Abdalla Mzee to construct an incinerator, purchase dialysis machine and repair its medical equipment to improve health service provision to the general public.

Zanzibar Second Vice- President Mr Hemed Suleiman Abdulla issued the directives in Pemba recently when he inspected the facility in Pemba. He said the aim is to improve provision of health services to public.

“We would like to see that all defective equipment are repaired and all services which were suspended are reinstated within one week so that people can continue accessing quality services they deserve,” he said.

Mr Abdulla said Pemba residents raised concerns over lack of several health services at the main hospital in Pemba, the problems that can be fixed by purchasing new medical equipment.

Speaking on the need to construct and install an incinerator, Second Vice President Abdalla said waste management at the hospital has been a challenge, posing health threats to patients arriving at the facility to seek medical services.

On dialysis machine, Mr Abdulla said Pemba patients are forced to travel from Pemba to Zanzibar (Mnazi Mmoja Hospital) or Dar es Salaam in search for dialysis services.

President Hussein Mwinyi has all along promised to ensure that all essential social services including health services are easily accessible to the people in both urban and rural areas
