AfricaPress-Tanzania: Various music stars in the country appeared yesterday at Uhuru Stadium to bid farewell to the President of the Fifth Phase, Dr. John Magufuli.
Magufuli who passed away on March 17, this year was a favorite of artists after working with them in various activities, including election campaigns and some of them wore hats as a sign of acceptance of their work.
Among the stars who were present at the farewell were Mrisho Mpoto, Nassibu Abdul ‘Diamond Plutnumz’, Rajabu Abdul ‘Harmonize’, Omar Nyembo ‘Ommy Dimpoz’ and several others who also, some of them, had the opportunity to sing the mourning songs they composed for him.
During his lifetime, President Magufuli promised to address the problems of artists especially after realizing that they are not benefiting from their work properly.
In order to fulfill his promise to help artists, he provided the Tanzania Copyright Agency (Cosota) from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and forwarded it to the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports.
That’s after artists claimed that their songs are used in various places, but they don’t benefit from anything.
Magufuli commended the artists for the fact that their art has made a significant contribution to the country’s economy and also, for its efforts to promote their music abroad.
Magufuli once promised them that the government would promote the arts and ensure it strengthens the cultural and arts fund to support artists including access to training and credit.
He said that is all because the industry is growing fast and employing many young people, it is important as it contributes to the nation’s economic development.
